“Dear all,

As a member of the Expo 2010 board it is my pleasure to welcome you to learn more about the Shanghai Expo and DNV’s involvement. As one of five main sponsors of the Norwegian Pavilion at Expo 2010 we will have a strong presence in Shanghai throughout the 184 days of the exhibition.

Expo 2010 is the largest world exhibition that has ever been organised, with 200 countries and organisations set to participate. An impressive 70 million visitors are expected to pay a visit to the Expo site which will be open from May 1st until October 31st.

So why is China and Expo 2010 so important for DNV?
China is one of the main engines in the world economy, and for DNV the country has long been a strategic growth market. Our first surveyor in China was appointed in 1888, just 24 years after DNV was first established as a class society. Today we have 900 employees working in 36 offices in 20 cities in the Greater China region.

Our ambition is to further reinforce our position in the Chinese market in the years to come. Sponsoring the Norwegian participation in Expo 2010 in Shanghai is therefore both a strategic choice as well as a symbol of our dedication to support humanity’s transformation to a low-carbon, eco-friendly and sustainable future. These values are at the very core of the thematic focus of the Shanghai Expo.

China did an extraordinary job preparing for and organizing the Olympic Games in 2008. I am confident that we will see the same dedication, professionalism and excellence in Shanghai in the months ahead.

I hope to be seeing you at Expo 2010."

Sincerely,
Henrik O. Madsen
CEO of DNV

DNV in China
DNV was one of the first class societies to establish operations in China. 122 years ago, only 24 years after DNV was first established in Norway, the young society appointed its first surveyor in Xiamen (then Amoy) to provide services to the vessels which traded between Europe and China.

Today China is one of the most important markets for DNV. We currently have 900 employees working in 36 offices in the Greater China region.

DNV is currently a leading class society in China. DNV is furthermore a leading certification society in the country, and holds 50% of the offshore oil and gas field certification in China. In addition DNV provides services within sectors such as wind energy, green software technology, IT Risk Management and is the leading provider of validation and verification of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in the Greater China region.
