Two training sessions of top management and project engineers of Indonesian pipeline company PGN has been arranged at DNV’s headquarters in Oslo this autumn.
Last week 12 representatives of PGN’s top management were invited to a training session at DNV’s headquarters. The session was followed by meetings in Italy with pipeline company Saipem and then with Sonsub, a subsea contractor and engineering company. Both Saipem and Sonsub are part of the Italian conglomerate ENI.
Owning and operating almost 3,000 km of pipelines, both onshore and offshore, the Indonesian national gas transportation and supply company, Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), turned to DNV six years ago in order to optimise the way it managed its responsibilities.
From day one of its relationship with DNV, PGN realised the value of training its staff to be able to fulfil the company’s commitments. In 1999 DNV took the initiative to invite a group of 12 PGN engineers and designers to Høvik for a three-week training session. The participants from back then have now senior positions in PGN.
Second round of training
Since 1999, the relationship between PGN and DNV has developed and DNV decided this autumn to invite PGN for a second round of training. This time, key engineers were invited for a one-week course in DNV Singapore followed by a one-week design exercise in Oslo. The session ended with a one-week round trip in Asia studying best practices relating to pipe fabrication, manufacturing and coding.
A couple of weeks later the top management came to Høvik.
“Such training sessions are very useful to show respect and build the relations with key customers like PGN,” says Kjell Eriksson, regional manager of Asia Pacific, DNV Technology Services.
PGN has decided to use DNV’s offshore pipeline standard for all new pipeline designs.
