The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) in Abu Dhabi and DNV have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) formalising a partnership helping the DMA realise its ambitions in providing world class municipal services.

Under the Patronage of Haakon Magnus, Crown Prince of Norway, the MoU is aimed at helping the DMA comply with relevant QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment) International Standards across municipal services and corporate social responsibility aspects, to support implementation of a business excellence model in its daily operations.
“We are committed to promoting world class services across the Municipal System region and in other Abu Dhabi Government Departments and Authorities,” said H.E. Rashid Mubarak Al Hajeri, Chairman of Department of Municipal Affairs. “For a period of two years, and possibly more, we will partner with DNV who will provide us with international standard-related services.” he added.
An integrated approach
DNV’s services for managing risk span over a large number of services and, for DMA, they will centre on management system certification, using the DNV Risk Based Certification™ approach, and product certification.
“We are delighted to expand our good cooperation with the DMA into a strategic partnership,” commented Bjørn K. Haugland, COO for DNV Sustainability & Innovation. “The MOU represents the leadership values and focus toward the integrated management of quality, health and safety and the environment that DMA is committed to fulfil. I am confident that our collaboration will lead to business excellence and sustainable development for DMA.”
Consolidating municipal services
Supported by training courses, executive coaching and staff mentoring tailored to DMA requirements, the programme will underpin activities locally, regionally and internationally.
“Our aim is to consolidate all the municipal services, under an international standardised framework that aligns with our vision to achieve an advanced municipal system, that enables sustainable development and enhances quality of living for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,” concluded H.E Al Hajeri.
